Gas Services

Definition

What gas services involves

Any work on a gas appliance or gas pipework in the UK must, by law, be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. This covers boilers, gas cookers and hobs, gas fires, and the pipework connecting them, along with landlord gas safety certificates (CP12) for rental properties.

Suitable for

  • Gas appliance installation, servicing and repair
  • Gas pipework installation or alteration
  • Landlord gas safety certificates (CP12)

Not suitable for

  • Anyone other than a Gas Safe registered engineer carrying out gas work — this is a legal requirement, not a preference

Process

How the work is carried out

  1. 01

    Assessment

Reviewing the appliance, pipework or certification requirement.

  2. 02

    Work

Carrying out installation, service or repair to current Gas Safe standards.

  3. 03

    Testing

Testing for leaks and correct appliance operation.

  4. 04

    Certification

Issuing the relevant Gas Safe certificate for the work carried out.

Typical timescale

Most appliance services or repairs are completed within a visit; installations and pipework alterations vary with scope.

Cost guidance

Priced following an assessment rather than a generic call-out rate, reflecting the specific appliance and work involved.

Limitations and exclusions

  • All gas work is carried out only by Gas Safe registered engineers, in line with legal requirements
  • Suspected gas leaks require an immediate call to the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, not a scheduled visit
