Power flushing is a process that forces a fast-moving flow of water, often with a cleansing chemical, through a central heating system's pipework and radiators to break up and remove accumulated sludge, rust and debris that cause cold spots, noisy pipes, and reduced boiler efficiency.

What Power Flushing covers
Over time, central heating systems accumulate sludge from internal corrosion, which settles in radiators and pipework and restricts water flow. This shows up as radiators that are cold at the bottom but hot at the top, banging or gurgling noises, a boiler that's noisier or less efficient than it should be, or a system that needs frequent re-bleeding. Power flushing uses a pump to circulate water at high velocity through the system, loosening and flushing out the debris, and is often followed by adding an inhibitor to slow future corrosion.
Suitable for
- Radiators that are cold at the bottom or unevenly heated
- Central heating systems with banging, gurgling or circulating noises
- A boiler that's become noisy or less efficient without an obvious cause
- Systems before a new boiler is installed, to protect it from existing sludge
Not suitable for
- Systems with active leaks, which need repairing before flushing rather than at the same time
- Very old or fragile pipework where the flushing process risks dislodging a leak that had been masked by sludge — assessed before starting

How do I know if I need a power flush?

Will power flushing damage old radiators or pipework?
