What Tiling covers
Tiling work ranges from a straightforward ceramic tile job on a prepared wall or floor to more demanding large-format porcelain or natural stone, which needs a flatter substrate, specialist adhesive and more careful setting out due to the size and weight of the tiles. Floor tiling in wet areas is usually preceded by tanking (waterproofing) where it forms part of a shower or wet room.

Not suitable for

- Very small patch repairs where matching an existing discontinued tile isn't possible — we'll advise honestly if a full retile is the better option

Checking and preparing the substrate, including tanking first in wet areas, so it's flat and sound enough for the chosen tile.

Tiling
Setting out and fixing the tiles, cutting around fittings, pipework and corners.

Grouting and sealing
Grouting, sealing (particularly on natural stone) and cleaning down to a finished surface.
Typical timescale
Tiling timescales depend on area and complexity — a standard bathroom typically takes two to four days to tile, with large-format or natural stone taking longer due to more careful setting out and handling.
Cost guidance
Tiling typically costs £40–£90 per m² in our area, with standard ceramic supply-fix at the lower end and large-format porcelain or natural stone, which need more careful handling and setting out, at the top of that range. We provide an itemised quotation after measuring the area rather than a fixed headline price.
Limitations and exclusions
- Tiles themselves are supplied to your specification unless a supply-and-fit package is agreed
- Substrate repairs or waterproofing (tanking) needed before tiling can begin are identified on survey and quoted alongside the tiling

How do I know how much tile to order?
We measure the area and calculate quantity including an allowance for cuts and wastage, which varies by tile size and layout complexity — we confirm the figure once the design and layout are agreed.
Can you tile over existing tiles?
Sometimes, if the existing tiling is sound, flat and well-bonded, but it's not always advisable — it adds height that can affect door clearances and fittings, and any hidden problem with the old tiling is masked rather than fixed. We assess this on survey.
Why is large-format tiling more expensive to fit than standard tiles?
Large-format tiles need a flatter substrate, specialist adhesive and lippage-reducing systems to keep edges level, and are heavier and more awkward to handle without cracking — all of which takes more time than standard-sized tiling.
