Garden design and hard landscaping

Landscaping

Landscaping covers designing and building outdoor spaces — hard landscaping such as paths, walls and levels, alongside planting and boundary works — either as a standalone project or to complete a building project.

Landscaping

Definition

What landscaping involves

Landscaping ranges from a full garden redesign to reinstating and improving the garden around a completed extension. It typically combines hard landscaping (levels, paths, retaining walls, boundaries) with soft landscaping (planting, turf), and is often the final stage of a building project once construction is complete.

Suitable for

  • Gardens needing reinstatement after an extension or groundworks project
  • Full garden redesigns, including levels and hard landscaping
  • Boundary and retaining wall work

Not suitable for

  • Ongoing garden maintenance such as mowing and pruning — see our gardening service for that

Process

How the work is carried out

  1. 01

    Design

Agreeing layout, levels, materials and planting scheme for the space.

  2. 02

    Groundworks

Levelling, excavation and any retaining structures needed to achieve the design.

  3. 03

    Hard landscaping

Paths, patios, walls and boundary work built to the agreed design.

  4. 04

    Soft landscaping

    Planting, turfing and finishing touches.

  5. 05

    Handover

Final walkthrough and aftercare guidance for new planting.

Typical timescale

A garden reinstatement after building work typically takes a few days to a week; a full redesign with significant hard landscaping takes longer, confirmed once the design is agreed.

Cost guidance

Cost depends on the scale of hard landscaping, materials chosen and planting specification. An itemised quotation follows a design discussion.

Limitations and exclusions

  • Established tree work is arranged with a qualified arborist where relevant, rather than carried out directly
  • Ongoing garden maintenance after completion is a separate, optional service

FAQs

Landscaping FAQs

Can you landscape the garden after an extension is finished?

Yes, garden reinstatement following groundworks or an extension is a common follow-on project, and we can quote for this alongside or after the main build.
